Sight:Sigiriya Rock Climb
The Lion Rock or Sinhagiri is an ancient rock fortress and palace complex, built by King Kashyapa I in the 5th century on the summit of a massive granite column as a fortress and luxurious residence to protect himself from his enemies after driving his brother into exile and murdering his father for the throne. Archaeological evidence suggests that the entrance to the palace was guarded by a giant gateway in the form of a lion, of which only the lion’s paws remain today.
